What is a Pub without a Bar?

Well Obviously it is just a set of rooms!

Well this is no longer the case for your faithful local.

The bar installation is well underway and its generous proportions will soon be in need of support in the form of some thirsty Greenwichians. In keeping with the Georgian exterior the bar is sympathetic to the age of the venue whist the deep blue of the finish and brass bar top give a nod to the modernity of the renovations.

We have returned the bar to a more original position facing the curved front doors which we have also returned to their former glory now opening welcomingly towards the street. We cannot wait to serve local beers and delicious cocktails across the generously spacious bar to help thirsty locals relax and unwind.

Other updates are the new floor which is going on the upper ground floor - a rich wood to add a bit of warmth and texture and contrast with the modern polished concrete on the lower ground floor.

... and the electrician said ...

Let there be lights!

Well, mainly cabling - but you can see where I am going! Now that we are getting into the final weeks of the renovations some of the internal fittings are being installed - and nothing creates ambience like some good lights! With our emphasis on reduce, re-use and recycle we have kept as much as we could from our last interior and we are using it to greater advantage in the new scheme.

Although it will be a while before we have the final fittings in - having the wiring installed is a great leap forward in the process of finishing off and defining the interior of the Guildford Arms. We can begin to see where our furniture will go and how the spaces will feel with all of our dedicated locals back in.

Tomorrow will see all of the powers that be arriving for a meeting to pin down timelines and the pace of the project so that we can set a firm date for our opening and pre-opening festivities.

We have stairs!

So after a lot of effort we have managed to get the installation of the stairs nearly completed.

The graphic “neo-Georgian” structure has (at last!) created a link between the upper and lower ground floors. The simplicity of the design is complemented by the graphite colour, which doesn’t distract or limit the eye from taking in the whole space, makes a grand entrance to the lower dinning room.

This link between the floors underlines the enormous effort our team has contributed to the build. The rooms have been linked y a ladder for months but now the two areas are becoming one unique venue.

Without compromising on design or quality we are slowly etching out the 2 dimensional plans into the real world and each time we visit the site it is less work for your imagination as the rooms become sealed and complete. Already we are each choosing our favourite space and we are sure that everyone who visits will do the same - there always seems to be a it more around each corner.

Now we have stairs we can start to really push forward with the interiors and the fiddly stuff like the kitchen and bar. Our designers at Footprint Design Studio are itching to get the big stuff done so that the fun part - the interior finish - can begin.

With a lot of help from our partners and local producers we are also creating a drinks offer that has the same sustainable qualities we use to define us as a company. High quality local beers and spirits with little or no food miles with a huge focus on products from the United Kingdom and those with little or no carbon footprint. With the help of Dan from Jascots wine merchants we have selected an amazing wine list with something for everyone’s taste and their sustainable business practices make your pleasures a little less guilty.

Stay tuned as from here on there will be regular updates as the venue nears completion and click here to join our newsletter to stay up to date on opening details and to get invitations to our opening events.

..and the build goes on!

The Guildford Arms, Greenwich, is slowly taking shape within the listed exterior of the old Mariner’s house.

With just over a month to go until we open the doors we are slowly uncovering, what will truly be, one of the finest local venues in London. We have created exceptional spaces within the Georgian building for quiet dinners, intimate lunches and lively drinks.

As well as etching out great views from the glass walled dining rooms we have stepped the garden to make an exciting and inviting place for catching some sun whilst enjoying drinks and some of the best food in Greenwich.

In the back ground we are also working hard to make this as guilt free a pleasure as possible. We have sourced ethical suppliers from carbon neutral and low footprint wine producers to local farm produce, line caught fish and even bio-safe cleaning products - who says you can’t have your cake and save the planet too?

Please stay tuned as we continue the build and we will keep you updated as to our progress as we get closer and closer to re-opening the doors.
